Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is one of the hottest martial art forms right now. With a strong focus on grappling and ground fighting, this self defense system is
not solely a martial art; it's also a method for promoting physical fitness, self esteem, discipline and building character.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu allows a smaller and weaker person to defend against a larger and stronger attacker by using leverage and specific techniques that include
joint-locks and chokeholds to defeat their assailant. Because of this, it's become one of the most popular martial art forms for women interested in learning
self defense skills.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Style
The emphasis of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is to get your opponent to the ground in order to neutralize the superior reach and more powerful attacks of a larger and
stronger opponent. Once on the ground, the trained technician can overpower their opponent using ground fighting techniques, submission holds, joint-locks and
chokeholds.
Once you've taken ahold of your opponent, there's many techniques to take the fight to the ground including takedown techniques and "pulling guard" where you
sit straight down or jump up and wrap your legs around your opponent. Once your

opponent is on the mat there's a number of maneuvers you can use to get yourself into a suitable position to apply a submission technique.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Training
BJJ training is commonly used in sport grappling tournaments and extensively in mixed martial arts (MMA) competitions. Many gyms offer training with or without
a gi (the traditional martial arts uniform). Practice involves a lot of sparring (or "rolling" as we call it) and live drills that teach students proper
Jiu-Jitsu technique.
When you train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, you'll learn specific techniques to take an attacker to the ground. You'll learn how to attack and defend yourself while on
the bottom or on top of your opponent. You'll also learn techniques to improve your position on the ground including sweeps and ways to pass your opponent's
guard to get yourself into a better position to attempt a submission.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu For All Ages
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is enjoyed by men, women and children of all ages and all fitness levels. It's one of the most dynamic and fun martial arts styles to learn.
It can improve your health, your self esteem, and your discipline which will have a positive impact in all areas of your life.
